First produced in 1949, Sturmanskie watches were originally designed exclusively for the Armed Forces and Navy Fleets of the USSR. These watches were not sold to the public and were mostly issued to service men on completion of their training.
In 1961 Yuri Gagarin took a specially produced Sturmanskie watch into space for the world's first manned space flight cementing the companies reputation for technical achievement . Since then Sturmanskie have been used by many Soviet and Russian astronauts including Alexei Leonov who in 1965 wore a Sturmanskie watch during the world's first space walk.
Since 1983 these watches have been made available to the public and are still produced in the city of Moscow only minutes from the Kremlin. Still a cult brand we're proud to be one of only a handful of dealers offering these watches to knowledgeable western enthusiasts.
