Introduction to Lew and Huey Watches

Lew & Huey Cerberus

Founded in the US in 2012 by Chris Vail, Lew & Huey is a popular microbrand. By this we mean a small business recognised mainly amongst a niche market or subculture. Based in Philidelphia the brand took it's name from a phonetic use of the Mandarin phrase 'Luen Huey', meaning rebirth or reincarnation.

Vail believed that he could design and produce his own watches and began work on what was to become the Riccardo. a mechanical chronograph. The watch was funded after it's second kickstarter campaign and was well received on it's 2013 release. Since then Vail has produced a number of watches for this cult brand and created the sister brand NTH.

Here we take you through main watches in the range.

Acionna

Lew & Huey Acionna

The companies second release was The Acionna, named after the Roman water Goddess. At 40mm width and with 200M water resistance the Acionna is a stylish watch that was somewhat overshadowed by the brands later bestsellers. Powered by a Japanese made Miyota movement the watch comes in three dial options and each watch package includes an additional leather strap.

Cerberus

Lew & Huey Cerberus

Following the Acionna came the release of the Cerberus. Playing with Vail's every dog should have it's day philosophy, this watch was named after the mythical three headed hound that guards the gates to hell. At 42mm it's a little larger than the Acionna but wears well having been designed as a versatile everyday watch. Reminiscent of classic tool watches like the Rolex Explorer and Omega Aqua Terra the Cerberus is less sporty than the rest of the range. Again, the Cerberus is powered by a Japanese Automatic movement.

Orthos

Lew & Huey Orthos

Although the previous watches had respectable water resistance, this was the first Lew & Huey release that was designed to be a purpose-built divers watch. Similar in dimensions to the Cerberus, the Orthos has increased water resistance of 300M and is powered by Seiko's robust NH35A movement. Both variations have striking colours, with the red dial being particularly memorable.

  • Case Material: 316L Stainless Steel
  • Caseback: Engraved 316L Stainless Steel
  • Display Glass: Domed Anti-Reflective Sapphire
  • Water Resistance: 30ATM / 300M / 1000FT

Spectre

Lew & Huey Spectre

The final Lew and Huey release we have is the bold, colourful Spectre. Named for the Lockheed Martin AC-130 Spectre flying gunship, the Spectre combines the “Flieger Type B” dial layout of WWII pilot’s watches with a ‘70’s case shape and styling cues from classic racing watches. All in Fireball Orange. At 44mm it's the largest of the Lew & Huey range and despite being a pilots watch comes with 200M water resistance.

  • Case Material: 316L Stainless Steel
  • Caseback: Engraved 316L Stainless Steel
